Dougy
Trying to get as many Fox's off the estate before the shoot starts back end of October I popped out again last night to have a gander. It was a bit of a difficult one really, the moon when I got there was really low under a wood so not an issue to start. And the wind was coming from left to right ok there then, I'll set up a caller 50yds from cover crop and 150 in front of my position. I usually wait a while before using the caller, time setting up my comforts on the back of the pickup, coffee, seat cushions, rifle rest all sorted. Then a spot around the field, watching badgers over the far corner 300yds off ish worming or after some suitable cuisine for supper. I soon noticed shadows appear in the field, dam the moon last night was like a dull sun but loads bigger, it started to light ip the whole field. But I also noticed the wind had turned, it was now coming from behind and straight to the cover crop. It was either move or an early night, the moon was too bright for stalking Fox's so possibly an early night. I had a scan around again not expecting anything but there was a Fox just entered into the field behind and to my left, It seemed to be drifting to the far corner where the badger was dining so I needed it to get a little closer, so a little mouth squeak and it picked it up and showed interest. There was a problem though I was now well and truly lit up by the bright moon from behind, and Mr Fox had now spotted somethings not right and froze,, I had to take the shot. 172yds straight down, that ended the night for me and the fox.
