andyw62
I've installed a few of these (driveway, back of a bungalow, stable block) and was pretty impressed tbh. Just don't expect the performance of a mains-powered unit. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/05w-8-led-solar-floodlight-with-pir-n01ht
sandspider
Will they pick up enough light to charge in winter, when you need them more? The reviews seem mixed...

andyw62
read a few reviews and yes they are mixed that's why i thought id ask here.I'll check out the maplins one These have worked satisfactorily for me in my situations, for a few years now. YMMV. A lot will depend, I guess, on how many activations you get and the siting/alignment of the panel.
craftycarper
I've got a few Maplin ones dotted around, driveway, greenhouse etc and they have been totally reliable
Cranfield
I have had some and found them to be finicky at best. None lasted all night (they don't need many "hits" to discharge the battery) and few lasted more than a few months. Read the reviews on the adverts. I replaced mine with mains powered ones. BrowningB525
I am looking at this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391238879956?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I haven't got round to buying it yet though. It is worth mentioning that the solar panels need direct sunlight and take a while to charge the batteries. Once they're charged up, as long as they aren't constantly on, they should be fine. craftycarper
Well strange, myself and most of the family have used the maplin ones for years and never had a problem. As long as you leave them for a few days to charge before you connect the panel to the light they are fine, perhaps you had a naff one
ben0850
Have a look on sure24 they are pretty good to deal with
Sauer
Got couple from Lidls A fairly powerful led one above garage door , triggers when come down drive and bloody bright , been great so far , and a less powerful one round back of garage which is lot less powerful and gives a broad gentler light .... Would be ideal for above doors into the house ... Can't fault them, they both in a great area for panels to catch sun all day Paul
