JDog
That's all I took out this morning, apart from gun and cartridges of course. The plan was to get in two hours of flight line shooting before the rain came and that's how it worked out. I found a position in the branches of a fallen tree then cut some hedera, sambucus and Salix to give me a hide. Being old and infirm I do find that kneeling in the hide then standing up to shoot takes it's toll but that was the best position and that's how it was. On a good wind the birds were acrobatic. A game shoot in the distance helped to keep birds off a large area of wheat stubble which is out of bounds for me. In just less than two hours I shot and picked twenty two pigeons, less than the other day but these were more challenging. At the first sign of heavy rain I finished shooting and I took the pigeons to the local pub on the way back and effected a mutually beneficial barter. The log burner is now on, channel 4 racing is not far away then the rugby World Cup semi final.

Grandalf
Being old and infirm I do find that kneeling in the hide then standing up to shoot takes it's toll but that was the best position and that's how it was. I used to laugh at people lugging shooting sticks around. Don't go anywhere without mine now. Pigs, fowling, game or vermin - You'll always find me balanced on my pogo stick. I do wish they would make them with a larger base but they are easily modified. For 'mud' fowling I carry a piece of plywood that I put under the base. For everything else my enlarged base - the lid of a saucepan - copes very well. Single adjustable stem and a leather seat suit me best. I get about two seasons out of them then the rust gets out of hand. Edited October 25, 2015 by Grandalf
