kippylawkid
I shot this bean stubble a week earlier and had a frustrating time as both my batteries ran flat (possible over charge) leaving me with no whirly or flapper. The birds would just not decoy and I shot 25 on the flight line. I checked the field all week and if anything, the numbers increased. I shot it again 7 days later, armed with a boot full of batteries and was ready to go. However, it was not plain sailing. There were huge numbers using the field, mostly young birds in flocks of anything from 20 to 200. The only hide position was in a very thick, overgrown ditch, but meant I had the wind in my face with the birds coming from behind. I started with the whirly 50 yards to my left and the birds did respond to it, but presented 50-60 yard shots, ignoring the 10 dead birds I had on cradles. I moved the whirly 3 times and eventually placed it right in front of the hide, about 10 yards away. This had the desired effect and I was able to get stuck in for a couple of hours, picking 40. Unfortunately losing a good few in the ditch. Shooting without a dog is like losing a limb.
pigeon controller
Well done great result, with the birds coming from the back going into wind can be a difficult shot but you did well.
JDog
It's a good time to see those flocks of young birds. However they don't really know what they are doing and sometimes just fly around aimlessly.
