LeadWasp
Hi I have an electric forklift that has gone beyond economic repair - cells, power steering etc. Does anybody know the best way to scrap it whilst recovering some value. I'm looking for a balance between ease of disposal and cash back especially for the cells. There are some firms that will offer you 50% of what they recover AFTER they've recovered it but something there seems a bit of a rip off. Any suggestions welcome. cheers LW

TIGHTCHOKE
Get a scrap yard to collect it, the steel, lead and copper should be worth quite a bit!
LeadWasp
It seems the yards want the fluids out and it broken down....my most local yard and I have some history. We had £6K worth of drill pipe nicked and it turned up at their place on a heap. I had the police there, although the pipe had been guillotined and had disappeared by the time they arrived (3 days later), when the bloke who nicked it (caught on my CCTV) turned up in his van on the weighbridge. Quite a result but I didn't see a penny back. It was worth it for the look on everybody's faces. strangford wildfowler
if the wheels are the solid type take them off becuase sometimes the scrapman will charge u £5 a tire which is £20 out of your pocket, as it happened to me at work. We got £150 for are old one at work and we kept the batteries to use at work so u could probably get more if you gave in the batteries too
Gavin_d
Best bet is defiantly eBay. Start the bidding of at what you would be happy with. Can you load it onto a truck for buyer to collect. If so put that in the listing and may make potential buyers more interested.
team tractor
We rang a local forklift company and a scrap yard. We had a Coventry climax 3ton and got £750 for it only 2 years ago.
B25Modelman
Yep, got rid of one of mine to a fork lift service company. I did not get much but at least they came and took it away.

crossy 666
If you are not in a rush mate I would hold on to it till the price goes back up. It's £30 a ton we're we are 😞
LeadWasp
Thanks guys. The weight nearly broke my 3 ton Ifor trailer when I got it so I'm beginning to think that the real 'value' is in getting someone to take it off me. The scrap price is dire, the heady days of £180/ton for plate are long gone. My yard is full of section cut off's and profiled plate so it looks like Steptoe's yard at the moment!
