Glenlivet
So, having been cajoled, goaded and bullied by Scully and Danger Mouse into adding a Winchester 101 to my collection (and with the wife out visiting relatives) I jumped into my van headed for Malmo in Lancaster. Turned the key, starter whirred, van burst into life.....and starter kept whirring. Knackered solenoid, new starter required. Trip to Quickfit, part fitted, bill 2/3 of budget for said pigeon grade 101. ****** Still got 3 guns
Medic1281
Should've just hit the solenoid with a hammer, go off to buy the gun, then worry about new starter in the new year!

Danger-Mouse
That sucks but if it`s any consolation my day has probably been worse. Set off over to Sycamore this morning and about a mile away from the ground noticed the stop and battery lights flickering on and off then half a mile later total power failure. Had to call to have someone pick me up to take me to the ground. When we were done there a mate took me back to the car and faffed about with it, changed the battery and the car was fine for about 3 minutes before total power failure again. Resulting in me having to ring around for a lift to get back home. I`m now home. The car is still somewhere in Bradfield.
Medic1281
Sounds like a new alternator is needed.

Glenlivet
Yeah that was what we were thinking. Dead alternator shouldn't kill a fresh battery. I drove a camper van with a dead alternator 8 hours a day in Australia, charging overnight from a generator.
Medic1281
Depends if it's petrol or diesel and what load he's drawing from the battery.
grrclark
Glenlivet, buy the gun and shoot the starter! DM you should buy a new gun too as a consolation and shoot the battery.

If I buy the gun I might have to shoot the bank manager!!!
Danger-Mouse
Depends if it's petrol or diesel and what load he's drawing from the battery. Petrol. DM you should buy a new gun too as a consolation and shoot the battery. Sadly I really can`t afford to right now (although I did buy one a couple of months ago ) plus then I`d be in competition with Glenlivet for the Winchester skeet gun. Can`t do that to him. I`ll just have to console myself by sending off my FAC application and browsing the .22 rifle pages on GT. Edit: Can`t say I`ve ever shot a battery, a SatNav once received both barrels though. Glenlivet
No transport problems today, flew up the motorway into some really nasty weather and arrived at Malmo quivering in anticipation. Searched the gunracks - no Winchester PG. Asked the guy at the counter - "it's gone to the gunsmiths for some "fettling"". Apparently it was really loose at the action and the stock was not in the best of nick so tlc was in order. I'm obviously not intended to own this gun so I now give up! Not a wasted journey however as they sold me a second hand skeet choke for my Guerini for £12, new ones are £60! I'm still after a LM maxischoke if anyone has a spare they don't need. Gordon R
That choke is mega cheap.
Glenlivet
That choke is mega cheap.I think he felt a bit guilty that I'd driven 75 miles to see an advertised gun which they didn't have in the shop.
Redgum
Been to Quick fit and got away without having to sell the rest of your guns to pay the bill, then feel a lucky man. Rumour around here that your likely to get burgled while your at Quick fit, no joke.

If I meet a lucky man I'll bear your advice in mind :-)
