fenboy
I mentioned on marsh mans post I had a long walk planned for this morning to try and get under some pinks , I have not shot any for a while as I have been enjoying the duck shooting so much I have not been visiting the areas that would give me the best chance of a goose. Knowing I had a long walk I arrived at the access point early and as I expected I was the only one there. Fortunately the rain held off and I could leave the coat in the rucksack while I made the two mile or so trek to my intended spot. I had allowed plenty of time and arrived in good time still in darkness. I have not shot this particular marsh much and managed my usual trick of finding a small creek to trip me up almost doing a face plant in the mud , in stopping the face plant I did manage to stick both hands into the mud up to my wrists though ! not a great start I cleaned myself as best I could with some marsh grass and settled into a suitable creek and had a cuppa while waiting for dawn to break and the marsh to wake up . The first things to grab my attention were a few teal wizzing by in the half light but none offered a shot , they were followed by a handful of wigeon mostly too high but one did offer a shot which I promptly missed . At last I started to hear some pinks moving and I could see a good skein in the far distance heading in my direction , unfortunately once they got nearer to me it was obvious they were far too high for a shot , I saw a few other small skeins but again they were all to high and wide . By now I thought it was going to be a blank trip and a long walk for nothing but fresh air , I poured another cup of tea and started to clear my netting etc away , I just emptied the gun of cartridges when I heared that familiar "wink wink" again I looked up and could see about 8-10 pinks about 100 yards off heading straight at me ,I slid down the creek and a mad fumble had me getting two cartridges in the gun before they were on me , they had drifted slightly wide but were still well in range and I swung through the back bird which crumpled and dropped like a stone to the mud , I continued the swing and a second pink folded and joined his mate on the mud. What looked a blank flight had turned to a good one in a few seconds and I finished packing up a happy man . The pair today were the fourth different marsh I have managed a pink from this season . That's a long walk for any man especially for me only taking you out there on only a couple of occasions .. it's not the easiest place to find even in day light never mind the dark so well done on both accounts. . JDog
An enjoyable read about your foray. They look more like Mud Geese than Pinks.

marsh man
A nice way to start your new year fenboy , just think of how many calories you lost during something you enjoy, while a lot of people have already gave up there new years resolution in losing weight and you have just done 4 miles over rough terrain with two Pinks to carry back , just be careful with the half century looming on the horizon One thing that I noticed in your post was the car park empty when you got there , Boyd said the same when he took Conor under the moon , and I said I passed several access points with no cars there Saturday afternoon when I went , so that got me thinking , when do the people go ? fenboy
I guess most are back to work now marsh man so that may explain it in part , also there have not been as many geese about as earlier in the season so a little more work is involved and some just cannot seem bothered with that , they turn up in droves once word is out there are good numbers of geese in certain areas but cannot be bothered to do much off their own backs. Although there a quite a few members in the clubs I shoot it always seems to be the same few who I meet down the marsh when the geese have gone. 6.5x55SE
Totally correct FB And as you have proved Work hard put the effort you get the rewards. Keep doing what you're doing. Further North but where you can shoot there's 2 small party's of what you would like to shoot. Can't give exact where as they are moving around the area.Be lucky
