Glenlivet
I'm thinking of having my Freelander TD4 remapped. A bit more power is always welcome and better fuel consumption would be a bonus! Anyone have experience of this, positive or negative? Has anyone used a mobile company called Autosecure http://www.autosecure.co.uk/remapping.html ?
garygreengrass
Had my disco 2 done made a big difference to the power but have not noticed a lot of fuel savings but well worth having it done.
MrPhantom
Been thinking of getting my x-trail done for a while now so will follow this with interest. robbiep
Always remember that, especially on an older engine / turbo, getting it chipped can put additional stresses into the system. This also applies to the clutch/DMF on diesel engined cars, making another potential weak point in the system.

This is something I had thought about although a lot depends on the right foot of the operator!
HDAV
Also many engines are physically the same with software detunes for various reasons, (economy, emissions, market placement ) if you have the lower output tune and upgrade to the higher output tune it's no different to having bought the higher output but you can reduce reliability if you take it too far. escortmagnum999
Worth every penny, especially if u tow. The biggest difference I noticed was driving up hill and off road.

Loki
Hi I can only recommend Superchips - probably not the cheapest but friends who have had Landrovers done seem chuffed. As I understand it they keep a copy of your original mapping should the need arise too. L

ferguson_tom
For the freelander td4 the best option imo is the Ronbox which can be found at http://www.tuning-diesels.biz I had one on our freelander and it transformed it. They were specially designed for that diesel engine and most the owners sites for the freelander, rover and mg all rave about them. Good thing is you can take them off if you sell it and flog it however as its a tuning box you do have to tell the insurance...which you should do anyway if you get it remapped. stuey
Wou,d definitely go with a company that had a proven record of success. Head onto the forums that link to your car and you will soon find out who is the daddy. I have a VW Transporter and it has been remapped by pendle performance. The guy has premises, and franchisees so a tried and tested product, and on the T5 forums, he is the go to guy. My van is now a flying machine, with good fuel economy too. Word of warning that a lot of folk are offering remapping services with generic maps, that are adjusted badly, but still with some gains and to avoid any issues, are deleting the error code database so any errors through poor mapping never bring on the engine light as they aren't recognised. Cheers Stu
Albert 888
Is it a manual or auto. Only ask ask as I have a p38 2.5 d range rover, it has a larger stainless exhaust,k&n panel filter and a blue tuning type box that goes into the electrics and the top of the fuel filter. It's very good and gives the car mor power and economy, but when normal drive the gearbox hunts up and down through the gears around 50mph,if I remove it the gearbox is fine. Mine is still plugged in,as I can live with the hunting up and down.

The optional dash switch is tempting but I just know I'd leave it in performance mode!
Glenlivet
Just be aware of the small print in your insurance policy! Yeeeeah.. But it's a Landrover.....not planning on tearing up the council estates or causing other undesirable havoc!
Albert 888
If I had a deisel turbo and had the funds I would fit a good exhaust, filter, give it a really good service and get it set up car specific, on a rolling road by a well known diesel specialist, not a generic remap or tuning box. The box I have works well on a mway run at 70 on cruise control 40mpg round town 30mpg. Towing a trailer back and fourth maybe 2 mile round trip 19mpg. Real life statistics. chady
Correct like the mercs The merc e220 is just a lower map compared to the e250. Also many engines are physically the same with software detunes for various reasons, (economy, emissions, market placement ) if you have the lower output tune and upgrade to the higher output tune it's no different to having bought the higher output but you can reduce reliability if you take it too far. sako751sg
It was me that started that earlier thread just after having the Jeep re-mapped and still delighted with it. Way extra torque and an extra 4-5mpg which is great.
