steveyb
Must have been asked before but I have just made sloe gin for the first time, does it need decanting? If so at what stage Thanks
jeffjjack
Personal preference, Some years I have decanted (bottled in Oct/Nov decanted and sugar added in Feb/March) Some years I left as is... My preference is decant... personally I think it is smoother Jeff
Kalahari
I put mine through a paper coffee filter. Crystal clear and lovely. David.
7daysinaweek
see one of my posts and this is what it will look like when decanted/ filtered. as kalahari says that is how i also prefer mine. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/323175-damson-vodka-the-ups-and-downs/ atb 7diaw
hedge
Personally with sloe gin; decant anywhere between 6-9 months (needs a few taste tests on the way! ) Usually run it through a muslin cloth (double layered) - you can also then let it settle and bottle it again to leave most of the sediment behind. You can then add sugar to taste (if not already added). Either way I'm sure it will taste really good.

hedge
I was going to say the same thing - just greedy! I've got about 4L of damson gin and a bit of vodka on the go. Gave up on sloe gin a little as I prefer damsons and it was too much of a faff to make any (I do have one Kilner on the go). Need to drain/strain and QC it in the next few weeks. I don't drink much so most get's gifted to people and I have Xmas requests already.
