Advice on a car Dealer

The car may have sat on the fore court for 6 months, half that is not at all unusual but anyway what would be the purpose of that ?

to see if at the time it was disposed of it was in need of the work to the suspension and brakes if dealer has lied in the description of the car and was aware of the issues and hence why no fresh MOT then there may be a case.........

Long shot but if the previous owner traded it in because he was given a massive quote for remedial work (particularly at that dealer how else would they know it was a coppers private motor) then there may be an angle, question is was it a LR dealer or just a used car lot?

The OP has already said the MOT did not have any advisories and as yet we don't 100% know if the testing station has been a tad over enthusiastic. It certainly doesn't sound as though the dealer manipulated the sale to not include a fresh MOT (not that it would have resulted in a £1500 fail) and a copper ex owner getting rid because he'd smelt a large bill coming and willing to admit as much and the dealer willing to take in an expensive car with a large looming bill :| is as you say a very long shot.

Man buys 7 year old used SUV car with 70k, it needs suspension work and new brake pipes, no conspiracy there.

My present runaround car needed new brake pipes when I put it in to a mate for a check over after I bought it. I wasn't bothered, it was to be expected, but the mate did comment he couldn't imagine how the car got through not just the previous mot but the one before that. There were a few other things as well. Shccks and ball joints on the front for example, nothing big but all should have flagged up at previous MOT.

They are a lot less common than they were, but dodgy MOTs do still exist

The mot is only valid at the time of test.i believe it stated such on the old certificates and should not be taken as a guarantee of roadworthiness for the full twelve months.there will be no recourse on the garage that issued the previous certificate and as has been said the dealer would most likely have only given three months.one of them down to experience things.

I looked at a Defender with a huge hole in the chassis rail near the spring mount and it had got a new mot that day! I could get my fist in it.

I am sorry to say that i don't think you have any come back. Those repairs with the age of the car and possible use seem about right.
