Hendrix's rifle
UPDATE- I spoke to the boss of the course just and he has mentioned something that is a little bit upsetting in a way. The greenkeeper found a badgers head this morning which indicates to me they have been at it again. I've been told it had no teeth and puncture wounds all over what was left. I personally am not a big fan of badgers. However, I wouldn't set a group of dogs on a badger that cant defend its self as it has no teeth. I'm presuming they smashed them to stop it gripping a dog. Even the boss was disgruntled by this, he said 'shooting them isn't so bad however to have them ripped apart by a group of dogs is completely different'. Opinions on this? Just a heads up to anyone locally it looks like anything is fair game to them!

Benthejockey
I've no problem with legitimate terrier work and I think it's a great way to accurately remove a pest. And I think terriers should be allowed to be used in conjunction with the cull which would indefinitely help them reach the quota. I was chatting with an old chap the other week about it. He used to work black dogs pre badger ban. Badger baiters are generally ****** or chavs. 'Look how hard my dog is it can kill a badger with no claws or teeth'. In a similar vein to the handgun ban the people that got penalised were the legitimate terrier men, what harm is a small do sitting and holding a badger at bay until it's dug down to and shot exactly like a fox? It was these blokes livelihood hood so it wasn't in their interests to run rough dogs underground to get smashed up to take weeks to heal and not be able to work. Whereas the baiters pride themselves on their dogs war wounds. And their dogs are disposable. Sorry slight tangent there 😝

They used to stand as much chance as the dogs. The only time one of them had an injured animal was a big rat in a Fenn trap that didn't die and the dog got it before me. Legit dog work when your doing as pest control and are doing it without beating the animals first (knocking teeth out and taking claws off) I don't have a problem with it and I agree entirely that they do a better job some times, but 7 dogs on a injured badger for sport is just wrong imho
Benthejockey
Exactly. I'm not a fan of old billy but nothing deserves that sort of treatment.
gduk
Gypsies with dogs, lawless bunch of thieves. Now I am not saying we should chase 'Them' with dogs across fields, that would clearly be inappropriate..... I have seen them at lakes fishing. I doubt they return any fish caught.(or have a license) Edited March 17, 2016 by gduk
gduk
Turn detective, observe rather than approach, find out where they park their cars and get some reg nos. Then if you phone the police you have something to give them. I agree with what your trying to say, but ****** don't register cars legally, and they never carry id, or the car is nicked, legal does not usually work with them. srspower
We have this problem on one of my permissions, I was accosted by 5 travellers with lerchers poaching rabbits and one of them had my slip in hand I had hung on a fence upon entering the area! I told him to give me my slip back and he did and said 'I thought someone had thrown it away'. They then just showed an interest in my shotgun asking me about it etc, not aggressive but seemed oblivious to the fact they were trespassing and poaching. I told the farmer but I don't know what you can do? Carrying a gun in such a situation, albeit broken, makes me not want to get in to any kind of argument with them and the police don't seem to care they are there poaching.
