A grand larl day out

Have just finished quite a large job in a local village so before starting work back on timber framing next week thought i'd have a few days off to get some of my own work done, but as the sun was shining today ( horizon to horizon blue ) I thought I'd skive off for a day out mixing a bit of work with pleasure.

Set off early and was a bit annoyed to discover Malmo Guns was closed on getting there as it said on website it was open Thursdays, and then realised it was only 0850!

Anyhow, in there, amongst all the usual good stuff is a couple of Sauer 202 rifles; one in .308 and one in .243, the latter one being a gorgeous bit of kit. Mate nearly bought one of these once but decided against it as he wouldn't believe it would function with a bipod.

Also there is an absolutely beautiful Winchester 101 skeet choked shotgun. It has a hard gloss factory varnish which is 99.99% perfect and is as tight as a drum with all it's machined jeweling present! It is a lovely gun and I was sorely tempted so I would be very grateful if somebody bought this asap before I have to have another run down there, as it would mean having to buy another cabinet also.

Next stop Fawcetts in Lancaster. We reminisced about handguns and clay days at Over Kellet (still on the go it's good to hear) and their business is shortly relocating to bigger and better premises on a farm near Carnforth.

In stock amongst other things they have a lovely little Winchester pump gallery .22rf and a couple of Remington 700 BDL's, in .270 and .243, the latter of which is brand new, for less than 700 quid. That's not a lot for one of the best looking and most popular rifles ever made.

I bought an old Webley and Scott 'Senior' to replace one I had as a child, complete with bakelite grips and 99% blueing. Like a dog with the proverbial.

Up the street into town centre where I sat outside in the sun having a bite and drinking coffee and people watching, then called in at quite a prestigious gallery I've been meaning to visit for some time, where I introduced myself and after about an hour of talking came away with a great offer and my head buzzing.

Back home up the M6 where I bumped into a bloke at a filling station who builds off road vehicles based on the Suzuki Jimmy (?) chassis ( pic's to follow ) and had the craic with him and on getting home found myself locked out so up to work for a brew with the lads.

After OH got home quick change and then up to shoot with dog, which rolled in a freshly slurried field, quick tea and then off to Lakeland Guns in Workington for 1900 with landowner, his wife and a mate to collect a newly arrived left handed shotgun for landowners wife.

There is a very nice Ruger 20 bore in there which fits me perfectly and is as tight as a drum, and an equally nice but plain Browning 425 with a straight hand stock, again in 20 bore, which I think another mate will buy when I tell him about it. Also a nice Winchester Model 70 in .22-250 if I recall.

The thing which really caught my eye, and which I had a go with, is a 'bullpup' type air rifle by a company called FX from Sweden. Very black and tactical looking, with a fully shrouded barrel and is without doubt one of the neatest and quietest little air rifles I've ever seen. He says he recently sold a S1 rated model to a lad who is extremely happy with it. It has certainly given me an option as opposed to the HW 100 in .177 I am considering.

Anyhow, all in all a grand day out.

Dog has been relegated to sleeping in her basket as opposed to on the sofa until 'the smell goes'. She doesn't look too happy.
