rodp
Ditchy, I sincerely hope this doesn't do a turbo D and let you down after all the work you've put in to it I wish you all the best with this and hope you get many miles of pleasure from it
ditchman
got one more repair to make and it is the hydraulic pump for the steering..........its a bit bent........dont think the seal was leaking but a new pump is £200 quid plus........and a rebuild kit is £6.00...........so i will take it apart and renew it................it is a real swine to get apart as the drive on the shaft is an "interferance fit"...anyway i will take it apart and you can see whar is inside and how i go about de-bending it !! ditchman
Ditchy, I sincerely hope this doesn't do a turbo D and let you down after all the work you've put in to it I wish you all the best with this and hope you get many miles of pleasure from it if i treat it like my other one it will last a heck of a long time.................3 weeks ago i adjusted the boost pin on the injector pump on the one in the landrover now and believe it or not im getting much better mileage and accelaration.........weird that thought it would be less the block on the re-build is on of the first turbo-desil's to be made......it was then bored out then changed for a 200 shortly after that......they say the early blocks were poor but if this one has already done over 150.000 and been good enuff to bore out then the casting is a gooden................i hope anyway
ditchman
Ditchy, I sincerely hope this doesn't do a turbo D and let you down after all the work you've put in to it I wish you all the best with this and hope you get many miles of pleasure from it ive just put the bin out ..so i thought i would take a quick pic of the turbo-desiel i have in at the moment........it has done 147,000 miles on a new set of rings thats all.....and a boost diaphram.........the reason it is shiny ..is because i wash it with cold water power wash every couple of mths...(did this one 6 weeks ago) and cause it dosnt leak one drop of oil i have to spray it with WD40 or it will rust !! rodp
If it doesn't leak it must be empty Regarding more fuel being more economical you'll remember the old Gardner 150's and 180's.? . I worked at a truck main dealers for years and it took the manufacturers ages to convince hauliers more power was more economical, eventually they bought bigger engines, and low and behold they were more economical. Probably the same with yours, that little bit more power is just enough, just gets it over the hump so now it cruises along without changing down all the time. Myself, I'm a 300tdi man, best engine they ever built, probably more by luck than design Hope you get many miles out of it
ditchman
think you are spot on.............the boost lasts much better and it is quick as a 200tdi and you feel the boost in every gear...im in top gear a lot quicker now.......... i do like it as it is sooo quiet ..........if i wanted a good solid workhorse that takes abuse ...it would be the BASIC 300tdi cheers

rodp
A mate of mine who used to comp decided his 5.7 small block wasn't quick enough, so he acquired a turbo off a coach. He didn't know what coach just that it was big and carried folk He bolted it (that's putting it simply) to the small block, set it up with a huge SU (simplifying it again) and took it comping. It was quite rapid (really simplifying it now), so rapid he kept crashing it I went in it a few times and to be fair it ran like a dream, it just went faster than his brain so always kept knocking wheels off on trees and things. Last time I went in it for a few laps the very next lap after I got out he walloped a tree head on at stupid knots (see what I did there). Glad I got out 'cause that would have hurt.

ditchman
pump apart.........you can see on the rota shaft 2 wear rings caused by not changing the oil for 30 years...the seal will scrub out on this ...so i put the finest polishing paste on my mop and polished the shaft up ....ooohhh err mrs.... ditchman
these are the 2 seals i need to replace the shaft seal the cover "o" ring the seals are in and i will collect them tomorrow £ 6.00...........cheaper than a new pump in excess of £200.00 and it should be good for another 30 years of abuse..
