Tam
Is there such a thing that is totally free (without the free scan & pay to remove)
Jamesey1981
Malwarebytes will kill most spyware, there is a premium edition that has real time protection but the free one will kill all the same stuff if you're prepared to start the scan yourself. If you find that it does pick stuff up but can't kill it then there's generally a walk through online somewhere on how to get rid of that particular malware, some of them are pretty hardcore. If you're doing a free scan that asks for money to fix then chances are the scan is fake and is in itself malware, there's a lot of them around. You can get it here, https://www.malwarebytes.org, you're better off using the link, there's a chance your browser may be infected and kicking up dodgy searches, last time I had an iffy antivirus infection it came with a browser hijacker. Once you've cleared it I would suggest changing your passwords for everything just to be on the safe side. old man
I had this yesterday and malwarebytes cleaned up my computer. Have used this for years, brilliant!
MonkeyKong
+1 for Malwarebytes. The paid version is well worth the money and has saved my behind several times. I'd also recommend these as a belt-and-braces: http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/ https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/ Hijackthis is a bit more involved and can be a bit overzealous. It will report a lot of legitimate processes as potentially unwanted. There are online log-file analysers that can help differentiate the safe from the unwanted: http://www.hijackthis.co/ http://www.help2go.com/content/home/31-help2go-detective.html
