Blunderbuss
I'm a woodworking numpty, so be gentle with me! I am about to build a fairly substantial chicken coop. I've been after a power mitre saw for a while, so now seems like good time to get one. The design I am using requires 30 degree cuts on the uprights which are 4x4 inch (100x100mm) timber. Most of the hobby mitre saws in my modest budget only have a max cutting depth of ~ 60mm. Will I be able to make a partial cut, turn the work piece over to cut all the way through if I swing the blade accross? Cawdor118
Yes, make sure you buy a compound saw though. if you buy one with a bigger blade you will manage the 100mm sections.

Thanks, the answer I was hoping for Those with blades big enough to do it in a oner are out of my budget. I've seen a sliding compound saw for around £100 from Screwfix which seems to get plenty of good reviews. I don't expect professional quality or features for that but hope it will do for DIY projects.
kent
I was cutting some big beams a while back. Rather than turn I just took them out and finished with the hand saw
malkiserow
Your hand eye coordination and steady hold is amongst the best I've seen..... just put the guns down for a bit and pick up a disposable handsaw from your builders merchant. I really would not bother with a mitre saw for one job. A £5 hand saw, a sharp pencil, a square and adjustable square are all you need. Blunderbuss
You've made me blush Malk :-) It's not just this job, I've a few projects lined up where this will save some elbow grease. I'm getting lazy in my old age.
bigrob
A quick tip - Don't let the blade touch the timber before you start the saw. Can be scary.

Looks ideal but I ordered one from Screwfix, collect in it today. Very similar spec to that one. Had some good kit from Aldi, I've just got a cycle maintenance stand from them which is very solid and superb VFM. I never thought of looking there for a mitre saw.
