Rimfireboy
Maybe it's going the right way for us, but you never know. Just hope that common sense wins in the end.
Danger-Mouse
Good news indeed, even if we`re not completely out of the woods yet.

Savhmr
Good news but complacency should be avoided. Such decisions within the EU have a nasty habit of being recycled again and again or brought in through the back door. Whilst this is mostly good news, there's a few points that I couldn't help picking up on: rejection of the proposal to register deacts and replicas....this raised an eyebrow as surely the point about the Paris attacks was that easily gotten, un-registered deacts were re-activated and used in the attacks and it would have been quite a smart move to have such deacts registered so that they could be traceable. I'm not against this and see the rejection as going against common sense; we already have mandatory licencing of "silencers and suppressors" so that's not affecting us, although they are not currently registered (traceable) nor do they need to be; The establishment of an EU wide database of firearms owners is worrying and not welcome at all. This last point is a step too far. It is no business of the EU parliament whether I own firearms or not and I have no wish to be on their snooper's list. The thing about reciprocity is just nonsense. I'm struggling to see how this can be proactively used when European countries struggle as it is to share intelligence (possibly because the EU parliament is devoid of it?). It's just more unwanted EU-wide control. The other thing that struck me was the use of language, particularly "Member States" for "countries". Britain is still a nation last time I looked, not "Nr 4 Member State". We are not YET in Federal United States of Europe, and God forbid that we should be, but this clearly is where they are headed and this means only one thing...ever more restrictive controls and red tape. No thanks. Edited May 13, 2016 by Savhmr
Graham M
The French can own handguns as can the Germans, Spanish..........and gawd knows who else.................So does that mean that we, as a "Member State", should be brought into line with those countries.......sorry "States" I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
