JDog
Following my abysmal performance last weekend with Agaman I am resolved never to hit and not kill so many pigeons ever again. I would rather give up altogether (which is the last option). Yesterday, following good advice from the forum, I bought a new semi auto with the kickoff system and I spent some hours yesterday reading up about it and more hours trying to get it apart and yet more hours trying to get it back together again. Fenboy had to help me with one particular item which I will not divulge. Today I thought I would fire a shot or two through it. The 21 gram cartridges I recently used would not cycle (no surprise there then) but my old and faithful Hull Superfasts did. I considered that I could at least fire a few of these punchy cartridges hoping that the Kickoff system reduced the recoil sufficiently for me not to feel uncomfortable. I then put up a 21" square piece of wallpaper to test the pattern. Please bear in mind that the last time I fired at a pattern plate in the company of someone trying to sell me a gun a few years ago I missed the plate altogether. The following picture shows the pattern with full choke at a measured and generous 45m. The circle is 100mm in diameter and on the 21"x 21" piece of paper there were 105 pellet marks. Could a pigeon have flown through this pattern unscathed?
fenboy
Looks ok to me , I cannot see many pigeon sized holes. How did the gun feel recoil wise to you ? I am not surprised it would not cycle 21 gram loads it may do once its been ran in a bit , I certainly know people who use 24 gram through them with no issue. I wonder how long it will be before we are reading of your first "Treble" Edited June 1, 2016 by fenboy
JDog
As I was desperately trying not to miss the piece of paper I suspect that I held onto the gun very tightly. I will know in the morning whether my neck is adversely affected. As for the 'treble', no chance. Edited June 1, 2016 by JDog
GingerCat
Fingers crossed jdog. Make sure you have a copious amount of gin before bed to make sure the neck is "relaxed". Medicinal of course.
oldypigeonpopper
hello, i am no expert but looks ok to me bearing in mind 30yrds in a 30inch circle was a general distance for pattern plates so that would mean you would have had more pellets, your 45mtrs i would think is a most outer range decoying, i do not know what others use in their semi autos but mine has 1/2 choke with 6 shot and do not shoot past 40mtrs or there abouts. mine is and armsan 612 and i am still getting use to shooting it and being slight in build recoil is so much better. aga man
It would be a very lucky pigeon that survives that patern at 45m. The main thing is did the superfast feel uncomfortable? hopefully your neck feels ok?
