ditchman
how much have you saved doing it yourself rather than take it to the main agent ?
viking
probably **** loads, i was advised to but a second hand original part, £17 off ebay, and 90 seconds of my time to fit it
Glenlivet
what are your symptoms? cheers cos The throttle goes 'dead' after or during hard acceleration or hill climbing, almost like a speed limiter. It's also slow to pick up from idle when pulling away. I've had all the filters done, including crankcase breather. The MAF sensor is my last hope. viking
sound like you may be in luck, sounds very much like mine, have you tried un clipping it like i did, it worked ok un clipped but obviously better with the new part and clipped up,

Hector Vector
Do you know anybody with Nanocom or Testbook? Better to see what flow rate readings you're getting before you fit a new one. If you do decide to replace the MAF sensor it's a good idea to stick with Siemens/VDO parts rather some Chinese made cheapie. You might get away with just a good clean of the element but be careful - they're fragile.
The Heron
Had the same problem myself the genuine LandRover part should cost £60 +vat + fitting.

Not getting an eBay cheapie, I'd rather do the job once then forget it.Had the same problem myself the genuine LandRover part should cost £60 +vat + fitting.I was quoted £300 for the Landrover bit!!! viking
£300 WOW, im guessing you have a freelander, and im guessing it will be near enough the same as a discos, i was quoted £150 for a genuine part,Siemens, fit it myself in 90 seconds
sishyplops
I just bought mine from Land Rover for £120, Marshall landrover in Suffolk , fitted it myself in less than 2 minutes
Glenlivet
Just heard from the garage. They haven't fitted the MAF sensor yet as there is a 'turbo nozzle' fault showing. Currently replacing all the breather pipes in the hope one is cracked and leaking. If not, scrap car I think 😭
sishyplops
There's not much on a disco TD5 that is catastrophic apart from chassis rot, plenty of used bits on fleabay that come from tin worm attacked discos , bearmach always sell good quality parts
Royboy
My father inlaws disco2 has just sprung a leak, turns out it's a tiny blanking hose from the oil cooler. Priced one from landrover and its £58 plus vat !!! This is a very small rubber blanking hose ! I've made one from scrap 20mm hose and jobs a gooden
