kennett
After a bit of advice chaps. A few weeks ago I drove over a rotten-ish log in some long grass and managed to get it wedged long ways under my n/s wishbone. Backed off it and seemingly no harm done. Fast forward to today and managed to slip into a set of tractor ruts so had to drag it's guts along the middle to get out again, just noticed that the front bash plate has pretty much folded in half, so I'm guessing I must have damaged it first time round. Any way, does any body know a good source for a beefed up replacement or if I knew a decent fabricator is it something I could have made? oowee
I need one too. Think they are made of monkey metal (whatever that is). Mine folded on a a rut.
kennett
Considering it is protecting a fairly important part of the truck they are surprisingly thin! Sort of cheap baking tray metal! What age is your truck? If your interested I could speak to a friend of mine who is a brilliant fabricator and see if he could knock us a couple up? rodp
Take it back to the dealer, it's a 4x4 so should be capable of grounding out without damage.
kennett
That is quite a good point, I buried my 10year old L200 up to its neck a million times and dragged it out with tractors etc and the bash plates never did anything but get a bit bent. This is pulled off and bent nearly in half

kennett
Spoke to toyota, not interested although interestingly they do sell the new hilux as having "3 x stronger under engine protection" so obviously they know it was inadequate! Borrowed a bash plate from the work hilux and took it to a fabricator friend. Should have a new one from 3mm chequer plate by the end of next week. For half the price of a oem one
