Sean Richo
What do you think chances are of getting a couple of wigeon or teal at the very start of the season is it worth getting out last year didn't see any till around oct/Nov is this the same every year? Guttersnipe
If you are shooting in the north-west, as I do, there will be teal on the 1st but no significant wigeon until late Sept at the earliest - shot my first on the 23rd last year, but don't peak until mid-Oct. You just have to be a bit selective on your shots in September with the teal, keep it sporting - its more about being out - last year had 3x teal, but mainly went for the Canadas/Greys. Good Luck
widgeon man
3 years ago I managed teal, mallard, pochard, tufted, gadwall, wigeon and pintail on the 3rd September! A very rare and cherished flight!
Smokersmith
There will be the chance of an odd one about .... a single teal made it into my bag on the 1st last year.
mudpatten
They`re both present on the south coast now. I`ve often shot both on the 1st.
anser2
Like Mudpatten in Norfolk I have often started the season on Sep 1st with teal and sometimes a wigeon. I was watching 80 teal on a pool just behind the sea wall last weekend along with 13 wigeon and 3 pintail.
Reabrook
Teal feature quite heavily in our early bags in the SW before disappearing with the first frosts. They usually return again before the seasons end but there are often a few on the Severn right throuout the season.several September widgeon are shot each season.
