steve_b_wales
I have just started to FL size some once fired cases (from a different rifle) but when I close the bolt, it's slightly tight on the downward stroke, just before it closes fully. Should I turn the die in slightly further?
Dougy
Yes, it's sounds like your not quite there. What rifle is it steve, I'm asking because if you can remove the firing pin without problems refitting then I would suggest you do. You can get a nice close fit by just slightly turning down the die and resizing until the bolt drops nicely down into the breech position. 6.5x55SE
I'd agree with above. Also are you crimping the Projectile !!!!! As this can cause the same/simular problem

I bought some once fired cases off a PW member. I'll try adjusting the die a fraction tomorrow and check to see if that works.
Dougy
Quite easy to remove then and return. Not really necessary to do but something that I would do to find the correct length to resize as you won't get any resistance on the bolt. Just turn an 8th turn each time until the bolt closes without force.
Vince Green
As long as the bolt closes its not really a problem but I have found full length resizing cases from other rifles isn't a perfect science.
Dougy
No but over forcing a bolt to close can shave brass of the base with the ejector. All though not a big issue there's no need to if the case fits as it should. Anyway I bet Steve got it sorted now.. :-)
activeviii
have a check on length to steve as this can creep up and cause the same feeling. 46.99mm

A very slight bit of pressure during the last few mm of locking the bolt, but it will be okay.
Savhmr
Have you got a headspace gauge Steve? Worth checking some of your old brass already fire formed, noting the comparative headspace and checking your FL sized brass. Should = fire-formed zero to - 3 thou max. Removing firing pin from bolt and closing FL sized until the bolt closes with just a tiny amount of resistance (you should just feel it) should be fine if you don't have a headspace gauge. Everything seems to be okay now, but I will remember what you and others have suggested, in case I get this type of problem again. Thanks to everyone who has tried to help. Dougy
Seems that we are trying to over complicated things here, my bet would be shoulders not being bumped back enough. But then that's another, could get a shoulder bump die too. Head space gauge added to the shopping list too.
