Which hole size ?

Recommended Posts

I need to drill some holes in a work bench for the bolts for my rock chucker press

The bolts are 3/8", I'm trying to work out which drill bit I will need to put the holes in.

Have read online a 7/16" otherwise the holes may be too tight. Also all the drill bits over here seem to be in mm ?

Just out of intrest are you planning on buying just one drill I usually hold the drill next to the bolt and if it looks a bit bigger I drill a hole and see if the bolt will go in if not I look for one that is a bit bigger or is this getting a bit complecated for you (sorry just a pun)

How's that a pun ?

For clearance? - 3/8 is 9.5 mm so 10mm should do it.

I thought it would be something like that, thank you :) Edited by Lloyd90

Cant believe common sense is free. anybody would think you have to sacrifice a testicle for it.

Come on Lloydy haven't you at least got a tape measure.

Next question is how far apart do the 2 holes have to be.

A man who is too afraid to ask "Am I doing this right ?" Is the one that ends up messing it up!

Unless your surrounded by idiots like I am and get the answer off you lot :whistling:

10mm was in fact perfect for the job! Although after drilling it I thought, "Hmm, could be a bit further along" so got two set of nice holes  Lucky it's my own work bench that I made so not bothered!
