How to finish a rubber recoil pad?

Hi all

I have been working on fitting a rubber recoil pad to my Browning Auto-5, its a Bisley old English type kind of a reddish brown over a black spacer. I have ground it to fit and it looks good but I am wondering about some form of final finish or sealant to shine and smooth it up a bit. Thought about applying linseed oil but worried that would make it sticky, so any ideas or tips from those more knowledgeable than I would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
