How does this work?

This is NOT a rant against the NHS as I think they do a fabulous job in often very difficult circumstances.

My Plantar Fascitis is still with me so made a self referral to a physio' after consulting my GP. I had the appointment yesterday and was contacted by the physio' some days ago to ask if I could pick up some steroids from my pharmacy prior to the appointment. I duly did so and paid for the prescription before taking them to the physio' which is 32 miles away. This meant taking the morning off work.

Ten minutes later after the injection I was on my way back home; another 32 miles away.

I was told that the steroids may work for around a couple of weeks and if the problem returned after that I had to return for another injection. No physio' was mentioned, and this wasn't a problem, but as there was none it seemed odd I'd travelled 64 miles for this, and when I asked why couldn't I have simply had the injection at my own surgery less than a mile from home, he just looked at me as if I was stupid and said I'd have to discuss it with my GP. I haven't as yet, but will if and when I need another injection.

Just seems rather odd, that's all. My local GP has given me steroid injections in the past for another ailment.

Might be of help but.....

Have you tried the gel insoles and frozen water bottle yet, plus the stretch out exercises early morning.?

I suffered from FP for 18 months before it was healed.

Luckily my Daughter is a Chartered Physio.

I understood from her that the steroid injections are next to useless for PF other than to control pain.

It may have something to do with the `self referral`. Did you ask your doctor if he could not give you the steroid injection ??

I've had the appointment for 5 weeks; it was only three days prior to the appointment that the physio' phoned to ask me to collect the prescription. I thought I was having physio' too, at the appointment.

Thanks. I've had all manner of gel pads insoles etc. The only thing that helped last time it flared up was an air filled support that I had no joy in finding anywhere this time. Fortunately the physio' gave me a site to look at, and lo and behold there they were! Will be sending for them tonight.

Two years ago my GP diagnosed my PF and made an appointment for me with a specialist at the local hospital. No physio. A straightforward injection direct into the centre if the problem area. No idea what was in the injection but it worked. I've been problem free since then.

That's what I had the other day, and have enough left for a second injection. Hopefully I'll get the same result as you.
