jgguinness
Hi all. Been away for a bit but back again. Started building a home NV set up for the back of my scope and need to purchase an IR torch. What's the best and where from? I'd like to be able to get a white pill to use it as a regular torch too. Thanks in advance

Dave-G
Unfortunately so many ask for details about the 'best' when they actually mean the cheapest, or best bang for buck. What quarry range and camera budget will you be using it for? Bear in mind cheap camera's usually need more IR than better one's to compensate for the lower performance, and note twice as much IR light generally only adds about 25% more range. Also note some torches have a lot of droop in the zooming head feature, T20 are about the worst and the newer EVO's are about the best with regard to budget torches. They can be bought with a choice of lens diameters that can be very quickly swapped for other sizes, and are quicker to swap between pill colours because the entire head unscrews over the pill - leaving the pill readily accessible to unscrew. https://torchfactory.com/evo-series Edited November 21, 2016 by Dave-G
jgguinness
Thanks for that guys. Dave, cheers for the info, the Evo system certainly looks decent, reasonable price too. What size head would you recommmend? Jonny

Rats and bunnies at subsonic ranges 38mm, bunnies at rimfire ranges 50mm, Bunnies and fox at rim/CF range 67mm and almost all fox at CF range the 75mm - but it might foul a 56mm or bigger scope eyebell. 3 power modes are more practical than single power modes - there are drop down tick boxes in the ordering section.
