Cranfield
Having been away for half of October and November , then stuck indoors with a dose of man flu for almost a week, I have not been out and about much. Yesterday I toured my shooting areas and found a few pigeons on old stubbles, but nothing on the rape, or anywhere else. The rape is getting along very well, but will still be shootable after Christmas, lots of swans on some rape fields. Lesson to be learnt here, http://www.kentonline.co.uk/romney-marsh/news/farmer-brutally-killed-swans-with-115807/ Whilst driving alongside some woods (private) I pushed about 500 out of the trees, so I assume they were on beech mast, or acorns. I saw some other biggish flocks flying around distant woodland, but nothing of consequence on the ground. Apart from the odd flight line session, it looks as though things will be quiet around here until New Year.
ditchman
that is virtually what i have here...but not big flocks....have 3 30-50 flocks foraging about....and when approached move off to another area..................
aga man
Natures bounty has certainly yielded well this year. Pigeons are still busy stripping the hedges of there berries here. I shot this bird last night, not only is it very young but you can clearly see how stuffed with hawthorn berries it is. This time last year pigeons were on the rape here but as yet they have not bothered it. Some frosts are forecast this week which might finish off the berries and beecmast and push the woodies onto rape. We can then all complain how tricky they are to decoy.
