HW95J
Have been given an old box of these in 42g 4(Bi). I'm unlikely to shoot geese but is there any reason they wouldn't be suitable for fox? Don't currently have a 12g with 3" chambers but what's the best sort of gun to run these without causing damage to me/the gun...?
steve_b_wales
Most semi auto's have 3"/75mm chambers and will be able to handle the load.
HW95J
Thanks for the response, is there a significant difference in terms of reduced recoil between semi and pump?
panoma1
Sell em to a wildfowlers....then buy a box or two of lead shot shells for the fox..........and a few pints or a couple of bottles of wine? with the money left over! steve_b_wales
Thanks for the response, is there a significant difference in terms of reduced recoil between semi and pump? A semi automatic will reduce the felt recoil, especially if it uses some of the gases released when firing the cartridge, to operate the piston. I've certainly heard the theory behind it, but is it a significant reduction effect? RE selling them to wildfowlers they've got a bit of sentimental value as it were so I'm keeping 1 and the box but would shoot the rest. Out of interest are they really worth that much? It's a box of 10, I'd say from the 90's probably. https://cdn.globalauctionplatform.com/d146d1d0-283f-4548-bd8d-a4f700a2d146/369a3e33-fa34-486f-a2be-5edfff7fd554/540x360.jpg Just like the boxes in this picture. motty
Bismuth shot is quite expensive and similar to lead. It is desirable mostly to owners of large guns (8s and bigger).
HW95J
Fair enough, beyond the need for larger bore shotguns and non-toxic shot my knowledge of wildfowling is limited. Thanks for the responses
lksopener
I'd say they are worth about £1:50 - £2:00 each if you sell them on to someone.
HW95J
That's a fair cost to buy a box! Are modern ones the same sort of price range? Sounds an expensive sport- though entirely logical when you think about the amount of material needed and more limited production.
lksopener
Yep they won't have been cheap. The wildfowl crew will snap them up.
