thats a cracking looking bird steve , it looks almost prehistoric.

Thanks Mel,

It was fascinating to watch this little bird go about it's business. There were a few of them around the hotel gardens, but every time I had my 'proper' camera, I couldn't see one. The photo was taken with a cheap'ish digital pocket camera. I'm going to invest in a better one.

Stevie my son was is into his photography and carries a lens that fits his iPhones camera. A slip on or clip on thing small enough to fit and leave on or have in your pocket. Takes a decent photo after going through some editing stuff.

Not sure if he still has his big cameras as he said it's never with you when you need it.

Linky to a high end one, cheaper ones for pocket change can be bought too. https://www.olloclip.com

Thanks mate. I've got some lovely camera equipment, but didn't use it much this time, as I took 100's of photo's when we were at the hotel last September.

When disturbed they can exude an evil and intolerable smelling fluid from enlarged and modified oil glands and if this wasn’t enough they acquire the dubious ability to forcibly squirt a hatful of liquid faeces and gut contents accurately over a distance of 25 to 30cm. It is a good reason for telling people to pronounce the name Hoopoe as ‘Hoopoo’!!

Just a little bit about them.  When I used to visit my daughter in Andalucia they would wander around the olive groves. A pretty bird indeed.
