Redgum
Just read in my BASC magazine that the 8 week extension for late license renewals has been put on hold once again. Its all been passed apparently but the police have put it on hold as they need to update their national computer system so this becomes automatic otherwise it will just mean more paper work for an already stretch system. National computer system is a bit of a joke when there are so many variations in how the different authorities interpret conditions etc. At least the expanding ammo change is happening, well so far. saddler
Kent do 12 months automatically now. How many steps back is that?
panoma1
Instead of miring the process in complicated red tape and officious nonsense regarding renewals, if the police (Home Office) accepted automatic renewals and/or the proposal of a ten year certificate term, the police would free up thiefcatching time, there would be no more of a threat to public safety and the delays and backlogs we the customers are suffering would be a thing of the past!.....or is that just too simple? Redgum
Kent do 12 months automatically now. How many steps back is that? So Kent automatically give you a 12 month extension period, or do they just tell you that on the phone as the eight week thing has just been passed through government, I would be a bit worried about my force telling me I am automatically covered for 12 months without receiving my license. saddler
Kent are sending out Temporary Permits (Section 7) valid for 12 months. Not a telephone promise, or a nod to an automatic 8 week buffer....a physical piece of paper. The logic is beyond me as the Section 7 requires the same admin & checks as issuing an FAC Edited April 30, 2017 by saddler

saddler
When did logic ever come in to anything to do with the Home Office Guidelines and Firearms Licensing? Well...none around today. Phone call just after 9am (Sunday) WPC from local station, about my one-for-one variation. Desperate to arrange a home visit. Er...ok. Inform her the variation was done, printed off & in my hand in less than a week....some two+ weeks back. Insists a visit is required to process the variation....but if today is no good it'll have to be the 15th onwards as she's away for two weeks leave. Not sure HOW a vist to give local input, a good month after the main office has approved & issued the FAC change, will have any bearing on anything? I'll have the gun collected by the time she's back off leave.
GingerCat
I suspect she's been told to check your safe and ts one of about 20 things she had to do that day, all outside of the 9-5 as everyone is at work.
saddler
The safe(s) she checked a year back on renewal...

GingerCat
Who knows then. I suspect she wondered herself.
