Horse chestnut

In my area there seems to be an abundance of blossom on the conker trees, The trees look absloutely full. Anyone else seeing this?.

Yes same round my way and the hawthorn really impressive.

Every so often trees create a bumper crop of seeds, 2015 for oaks and acorn was mental in Essex.

I read somewhere that experts aren't exactly sure why they do this.

Horse chestnuts are looking normal here thank ****, they are a pain in the backside when doing leaf collection in tte autumn.

I love to see Horse Chestnuts in candle and, for me, it's the sign of summer. Looking at an individual blossom I think it is as beautiful as any Orchid.

Ours in back garden is huge, had to take two photos to show it, lovely tree, but I think it needs reducing again now. I expect it's at least 35/40 ft across

Wow that is quite impressive for a back garden. I've got ash trees but that is much more attractive.

Just driven by the tip in Leyland and both sides of the road are linned with chestnuts not as big as above but they look great, with a sneaky sweet chestnut amongst them

We have had a couple of very cold springs in the last few years so the tree has not expanded as much energy in flowers and nuts. This year the spring has been warmer ( except for a week or so late April\May ) and with the extra stored energy is able to put on a good show of flowers. If the present warm weather holds expect a bumper crop of conkers in the autumn.
