Non Member Shooting Ranges

Recommended Posts

Morning

I've had my FAC interview so I'm one step closer. With that in mind I'm looking for places I can practice when my club isn't shooting.

Does anyone know of any shooting ranges 25-100 meter ish or more within 1 to 1.5 hour drive from Newbury that allows you to shoot and not be a member. I already pay out for 2 memberships and possibly a third soon so I'd rather not join anymore. I would like to shoot .22 rimfire and if possible 12 gauge slug. There is Bisley but is there anywhere else? Wiltshire Shooting Centre allow non members to turn up and shoot rifle are there any other places? Friday opening would also be beneficial. Google just brings up loads of clay grounds and the odd member club (unless I'm putting the wrong thing in).

Thanks

Wedgenock if any of your existing clubs are affiliated to MLAGB, pretty good facilities but a bit quirky

What do you mean quirky?

A good shout though as they seem to be open weekdays. Could actually be worth the extra membership cost for that alone.

Why are they quirky?

1) I think muzzle loaders are generally a bit more eccentric

2) they like to get to know you, which is not unreasonable but it can come over as a bit stand offish

3) they have funny restrictions on which calibres you can shoot at what times and that can be a bit annoying as it all seems a bit vague

Saying that, it is a cracking range and once you have worked your way in its really easy going

From what I've seen of some of these club members I have to agree some are a bit, well not querky, more of, not living outside the range box. Some had no idea whatsoever that anyone could actually shoot a rifle away from the H&S confinement of a range or without the RCO overlooking every movement of the trigger finger.

And the few I have seen of the "job's worth RCOs" should be on medication for dementia.
