I am with Cranners and Teal on this. There are just too many inane questions and comments. The " oh i wish i lived nearer, and if only you had asked last week crew" along with the predictable " if you filled in your profile it might help" brigade are ruining the site.

Just the other day there was a brand new S200 for sale, 3 days old and the inevitable "pics please" flooded in. IT WAS A THREE DAY OLD S200 FOR GODS SAKE. What else would it possibly look like.

If people just want to increase the number of their posts then do it constructively instead.

JDF

P.S why are people who do not even posess a shotgun licence asking silly questions i.e stock length, choke, heel to comb and that mularkey when they could not buy it if they wanted to. YOU know who you are.

At the end of the day your one there to try to sell, if that means adding more info that's only more advertising power that you forgot to mention. So long as people aren't arranging to meet up and then one party doesn't turn up without notice :good: then the rest is fine IMO.

For some pictures? More pictures? A reduction in price? A possible swap for some old tat they have instead of cash? Can they pick it up? Can you meet half way? Would you consider splitting?

All of which are of interest only to the individual buyer - nobody else needs to see those things, so why not PM / email :good:

Not aimed at you stu, just seemed about time to make the point

This is difficult.

If I were a seller, I'd try and treat it as a newspaper advert but with the bonus of being able to add pictures. So it would be up to the seller to give the best description he/she can.

Where some questions may only be pertinent to the individual buyer (would you consider splitting, etc), some of those answers may be of interest to other prospective buyers. The seller may find themselves answering the same questions - in a forum the buyer can see the answers.

I don't know how moderating works, but could the decision be left to the seller as to wether replies are sent via the forums or by e-mail/PM, and the post then blocked or left open as required?

Answers on a postcard please!

Some good ideas!

If the seller keeps getting asked a question, then he/she has the option of editing the original post to include an answer to that question if appropriate.

If you don't want to split, say so, if you don't want offers, say so.

Seems simple enough, if you forget to specify something then add it later :good:

For me this is fairl accademic anyway, if I don't want something and I think a forum member can make proper use of it I will happily give it to them.

If I want real money for anything the last place I would advertise it is on here - the words ****, tight, and ducks spring to mind :good:

I voted to change it back, only really so questions can be asked and feedback can be left when a deal is done.

One of the first things I do when I am thinking of buying something is check through the sellers previous deals and normally there is a message along the lines "Item received as stated, thanks blabla".

It also saves a seller having to answer the same question time and time again, although the initial post normally contains the relevant info there are questions that are asked that could help others.

I would also ask the mods to be a bit more lenient on posts in the for sale section, when Baz (The Stalker) first joined the site he put something for sale in the classifieds, I thought others may know me from other shooting sites (there are others :good:) I put a post something along the lines of "Good bloke have seen shot rifle and is as described" to put peoples minds at rest from buying from a newbie, the topic was already at the top of the for sale section but my post was deleted I assume because it was seen as a bump.

I know the mods have a hard job to do and I appreciate having the forum here but thought I would have my 2penneth worth, not that it's worth that much

Thanks for the nice comment naddan, but I don't think the complaints are aimed at me personally, I assume they are aimed at the system (which is more than just me).

You do realise that by calling me "pretty , fair and a nice bloke", you could be spoiling your relationship with LB.

I don't recall ever being described as "pretty" before. :good:

Cranfield, you are the sytem! As for the "pretty, fair" I meant as in reasonbly fair and you know it! As for my relationship with LB... I wasn't aware it existed! lol

For me this is fairl accademic anyway,

To be fair it's accademic full stop.

Teal wants it this way and Teal has got it this way. Don't blame the mods because they are just following what Teal wants them to do (and that's not having a go!) it is their job to do that.

This is a privately owned site which means it is not a democracy.

Not *** kissing, not having a go, just accepted the fact that it is what is and there is no way to change it.

This constant whinging is not going to make any difference, let's just get back to shooting :good:

I voted on this yesterday but don't think I left a comment, probably got distracted by something shiney.

Anyway, understanding that it's under review, and wishing it understood that by expressing my opinion I'm not whining, trying to keep something going or *** kissing, I liked the old system and would like to see it back as soon as possible.

Sure, put something up for sale and there's a risk of someone coming on saying oh but you can get that cheaper here in this link (thereby ******* off the seller who can't say a word really), maybe part of the reason for a curtailment of public comment by admin was advertising/sponsor related I do not know.

What I say is that it's valuable in itself to allow public comment, as long as it's not dumb, on any item. I may be interested in purchasing or selling something and someone else may think of a question or a different use which will help myself and others to make a sale of use the item differently.

I have seen excrutiatingly (spelling) stupid remarks on some items by people who just should've kept their beak out, but no one can regulate stupidity.

Bring back the banter
