Good gun choice I tell client to fit chokes 1/2 &1/4 are fine and shoot the gun until they can tell the difference most novices miss because of their error not choke.

I would remove the bead either leave it bare or fit a simple plain bead.

I'll be removing the aftermarket fibre optic style sight, the original bead is still on the end so i'll leave that be.

The mid-bead I assume has been pushed in for the fibre optic bead to show correctly.. Not fussed about having the mid bead so for now I guess it can stay that way, the less on the rib of the barrel the better for me to save distraction from the clay.

The fibre bead has helped though for now, I've mounted hundreds of times in the living room and consistently now have the right sight picture with the gun so I wouldn't even mind having a completely bare rib if i'm honest.

Sure is!

I was in bad books immediately having cleaned an already 'clean' gun for 3 hours followed by an hour of making her point a laser at the wall as i shouted 'pull' and mounted the gun followed by sound effects.

It's a good job she expressed her distain for my shotgun before I tucked it in bed with us  or I might have woke up with a black eye

I did this when I got my Ithaca mag 10, the wife said 2 stop sticking that barrel in her back I said "It,s not the gun"

Browning? What Browning/ I don't remember................. :whistling:

I'll get me coat

The missus saw free money for a potential weekend break in making me opt for S/H . I'm kind of glad cause I love the gun, it's not too dissimilar from the 525 sporter one in theory and it cost half the money.

I'll get one but in fairness she has a point, I'm new to it all so get something S/H that doesn't cost the world and learn with that, i'll advance and maybe opt for a 725 if I get serious a bit further down the line.

Like the American lady who asked what a 12 bore was in English. Well it's a 12 Bore in American it's a 12 Gauge she looked a little surprised when somelse explained we spoke English in England Americans had adapted it to their own language that was close but not English.

Except of course - depressingly, as an English person - the Americans are closer to the mark on this one.

"Gauge" is correctly used because, in all cases I can think of (shotgun tube sizes, wire thickness, etc.), it is a measurement derived from the deformation of a physical object to produce another object of known size. It is also quite English and I believe, was deemed standardized by the Board of Trade in the mid 1800s.

We're all aware that, in the case of shotguns, the gauge is the size of a sphere created from 1lb of lead equally divided into the a number of pieces equal to the gauge size. Similarly, in (Imperial) wire gauges, the gauge is a measurement of internal surface area. It's derived - I believe - from the number of times a known length of metal bar had to be stretched to produce a wire of a given thickness - though in the case of wires, the "true" numbers are adjusted to provide a more useful selection of thicknesses / cross-sectional areas.

"Bore (size)", on the other hand, is a measurement, expecting a number and some units. ".410 bore" (implying inches) or "9mm bore" (specified units) or - indirectly - ".30 calibre" are all bore sizes. "12 bore" on the other hand, strictly speaking, means nothing.

Of course, anyone who shoots will immediately know to what "12 bore" refers to and what is meant by it - that's just convention. Unfortunately for us however, although we can rightly get exercised about "aluminum" and "sulfur" (which are not the least of the abominations our cousins have inflicted upon the world, via the International Standards Organization), the use of "gauge" is quite correct.

Exactly the same as my first shotgun ten years ago. You've made a wise choice mine hasn't missed a beat.

That's good to know, hopefully mine will do the same!

First time out with it properly this evening, did one round of skeet and the easy hit sight thing was doing my head in! Far to obvious on the barrel and kept distracting my eye from the clay. Popped it off ran another round of skeet and It was much better!

Definitely wasn't a modification for me! Happy with no mid bead and just the end bead for now however the little hole where the midbead was annoys me so may try to fit a screw in midbead that I can easily remove and replace. Rather it look original with the option for me to temporarily remove it whilst shooting.

All in all shot 175 cartridges tonight and it was an absolute joy!
