Browning 725 DS chokes patterns

Recently acquired a 725 prosport and reading on the internet the general consensus is that the DS chokes shoot more open than other guns. So I did my own tests in a basic way at 30 yards. It seemed to be true, I had to go to Imp mod to equate to the 1/4 on my optima choked Beretta.

Has anyone else experienced this? What DS chokes do you normally use for sporting.

I would have put some pictures of the patterns on but the files are too big.

Use the one that shoots a 1/4 pattern like your Beretta and then stick the next tightest choke you have in the top barrel and forget about them and enjoy your shooting. If you miss your chokes won't be to blame, not many courses that 1/4 choke won't cope with.

Yes had really good results with the 1/4 optima chokes over the years. Have already done precisely what you recommended i.e. 3/4 and 7/8 but if anything was overkill. However also tried the 1/2 but that seems a little too open - pity they don't do a 5/8. That's why I was wondering what others experience was, but not worried I'll get on and shoot with what I have. Just interested technically.

Figgy is correct.

The standard chokes are **** mate, we now use Kicks smoke chokes, which are are superb

Go onto the Kicks website, they explain what there chokes sizes do.

The lass uses N and 0 for English skeet, N being a special order.... But well worth the wait.

Beware though, the chokes pattern on the tight side so choose carefully.

My guess would be 5-10-15-20 for sporting :good:

Ive recently started using 2 x Modified extended tubes in my 725 and am getting decent results….

Was a bit confused though reading that you had good results with 1/4's but thought that 1/2's seemed too open :hmm:

I was comparing the Browning chokes to a 1/4 Beretta optima choke, the Browning DS 1/4 and 1/2 chokes were more open when compared to it. The 3/4 Browning choke was about the same as the 1/4 Beretta choke.

Having said that the Browning 1/2 (modified) threw a good even pattern albeit as stated more open than the 1/4 Beretta.

As we know patterning only tells you so much and of course spread can depend a lot on what cartridge you use.

For my experiment I used Fiocchi Official Sporting 8.5 (English 8s)s
