as some of you may know im buying a new land rover on tuesday, but the lad has just said the new logbook hasnt come back yet after taking his private plate off, he still has the old on and iv seen it, it used to be 4-6 week for them to come back, but i took mine off a few days ago and did it online as he said he did, only i got my logbook in the post 3 days latter, is it a big no no to buy it without the logbook, even though i will have a good paper trail, texts, emails and a bank transfer and would get a written receipt and an written explanation of whats gone on, i know you never know but the bloke seemed sound and honnest, went into his house and met the family, all seems very very above board, hes not trying to get me to buy it without log book, im just inpatient and dont want to have to wait, and its a £17,500 purchase so not cheap

what are your thoughts, or the legalities of this situation.

thanks.

V5 isnt proof of ownership - but personally I wouldn't buy a motor without one.

If I were you I would wait till it comes back to him before collection.

Also - you probably did - but always HPI check.

im thinking the same really, yes always HPI my cars :good::good:

Says on logbook 'not proof of ownership'. As long as all numbers match and you have everything else to go with it I wouldn't be too worried, especially if a hpi check came back fine. Mine usually take over a month anyway, just an unlucky one. My old man sent one off 2 weeks after I did and still got it back first

he bought it from ripon land rover witch isnt that far from me, and said he got a years warranty with it, and said he had alsorts done on it under that warranty,

new rear tub just because it had a small hole in the botton of the bit at the back where the 8 bolts attach to the chassis, and a few other things, just sent him a msg asking him to remind me of the other things, but there was some thing to do with the gearbox and maybe the transfer box, it failed a MOT due to corroded brake pipes, he said he got them done under warranty, having never had a car with warranty i wouldnt know.

For £17,500 you want a 100% text book sale mate, if hes genuine he'll be chasing up DVLA first thing Monday morning.

hes been on at them, they have sent a newer one out as they said he should of got the first one already, hes not once suggested going ahead with the sale without one,

this is what i was thinking, but its something iv never done before, logbook has always been present, he goes away on thursday for a week so if its not come by then ill have to wait, and im very keen to get it :hmm::hmm:

My D3 needed new brake pipes after 4 years. Apparently they were steel!! I can't believe that they still make them out of anything that would corrode. When I had them sorted they replaced them with copper I think and the garage I used had the contract for YEB Land Rovers and did them all the time apparently.

Any way, as everyone else is saying, be patient Lee and wait for the docs, 17 grand is a very big heap of t*** up!

Will I once again have to read through pages of resto pictures feeling slightly inadequate after you do actually get it or is this one finished?

Regards

GG
