JDog
Having been away for five days socialising and having to drive back last night today was going to be a day of rest even though it was not the Sabbath. The dog was walked in the dark this morning and I went back to bed until I opened the curtains to a beautiful sunny day. Another walk with the dog was planned and NO pigeon shooting kit was to come with us (apart from my gun and some cartridges). Sorry if it is getting boring but the usual many hundreds if not thousands of pigeons were still there on the stubble and I parked up admiring the spectacle. Clodhopper then called to disturb the peace with a cunning plan to shoot pigeons returning to a rape field over an escarpment into the wind so I drove the ten miles to meet him and a friend ignoring the thronging masses in front of me. I will save those for Ginger Cat or Mighty Mariner if either of them can ever find time to come out to play. This part of the Wolds has steep banks of 30m high and flat land in the bottom. Clodhopper's plan was for us to secrete ourselves in a hedge without decoys of hides and await the pigeons return. As soon as we got set the heavens opened and for getting on for an hour we had very heavy snowfall. Two pigeons flew during that time. Even though I do not know the land I was convinced that there would be more than one line in once the snow stopped so I volunteered to go elsewhere. When the snow abated pigeons did come back to both places and we had some of the best sport possible on flight line pigeons and we shot 30 between us. My drive home was tricky with 75mm of snow on the minor roads back to the village.
aga man
Terrible on the Yorkshire wolds this morning, the main road through Tibthorpe looked like this at 10am. By 12pm snow ploughs were on the road. Almost got the van stuck twice! The only pigeons I saw were on the hedges picking off the last of the hawthorn berries. Clodhopper
Having got back to meet my better half at the stables i realised i had left my cartridge bag under my hidey bush. So i had to take a rather long and chilly walk back, the birds were still flighting in the disappearing light.
marsh man
You all done well to face the elements in todays weather and you deserved everything you got as far as sport was concerned , we had snow off and on all day today and I was going to have a hour in the wood but just as I got there just after dinner there was a real heavy shower of snow and sleet , so after giving the dog a run I chickened out , jumped back in the motor and headed back home. Not as bad as aga mans county but the first touch of snow this winter. https://ibb.co/gXf8Eb

Ok maybe not the snow but a good north/ north westerly does help.
pigeon controller
Well done for braving the weather and I hope you were rewarded with some good shooting.
