stuartc44
I bought a used ou Bettinsoli shotgun for £180 from a local gun shop and was told at the time that the guns are all service and checked before being sold. I took the gun out for a try and found that you needed to almost hold the barrels down to get a cartridge in the bottom barrel, not difficult but noticeable, and closing the gun with a cartridge in the bottom wasn't easy, the head of the cartridge was being scraped where it came into contact with the face. I took it back to the dealer and was told it was what they call barrel drop and would get the gunsmith to look at it. Four weeks later I get a phone call, all fixed under warranty and ready to go. I get home take it out of the slip and open it and one of the ejectors operates, thought it odd. tried it with snap caps and it closes fine but now won't cock one of the hammers. I took a trip back to the dealer and was told he would put it to the top of the list to be looked at. Five weeks later still hadn't heard anything so contacted them to be told he has three guns to look at and then mine, this was six days ago. Basically, having never used this gunsmith before, does this sound like something that is easily done, fixing one problem and causing another, or would it pay to avoid next time? guzzicat
Not fit for purpose, the price does not come into it, refund.Would you have confidence in it if "fixed"again?

oldypigeonpopper
hello, to get a warranty for a sub £200 gun seems very good to me, i do not know much about bettinsoli guns but i would be inclined to do a bit of research on them for faults, or ask the shop to take back and use £180 against another gun if that is your only one , failing that maybe wabbit bosher has a decent cheapy, if you were closer i would lend you one but not sure on certificate hassle Edited January 25, 2018 by oldypigeonpopper
Fil
It sounds like a tired out gun to me. Especially for £180.00. Although you can get good working guns for that money but I'm afraid you got one that sounds like it's past it's sell buy date. Or has been got at by a few mechanics due to it being well shot. I won't sell guns that "cheap" not worth the aggro. Not when there are new ones available now for just under £500.00 Dealer was good enough to give you a warranty for that cheap of gun and offer repairs but he'd do better to just offer you a different gun or give your money back. He wouldn't have paid much for it any way. Better for you and better for him keep seeing you coming back with it. I call those guns boomerangs. The problem you first describe is over cock. This is normal on most o/u's and most notable when the gun is loose. It maybe that the "gunsmith" has tightened it on the fore end to make it stiffer to open thus it will not then spring back when you open it. As for cartridge scraping the face. Seen it lots on worn old guns... plain as that really. Wear on the lobes of the extractor means the action does not draw the extractor in to clear the face of the action when closing so it scrapes the face. Live ejection maybe due to the tightening has caused the ejector rod to now contact the trip but as for not cocking anymore...well...take it back. May have snapped the cocking cam or who knows what. Better off scrapped I'm afraid.
Gunman
Return for refund or credit . Any old gun sold at that price will be suspect thats why many respectable dealers either dont sell them or put them into actions . Sorry you have had problems , I dont know or want to know the dealer but I should be very wary of any single trigger ejector ,Italian or Spanish made O/U at that price . stuartc44
Thanks for all the replies, had a call today that it is all fixed. Now tried it and both barrels are firing but contact is still being made with the face, quite difficult to close when doing it slowly, so will phone first thing in the morning.
