flippermaj
I have always used hay in the duck nesting tubes we have. However I have been given some straw, is it any good for the tubes? cheers flipper
alastair0903
I guess it might be ok, any videos I have watched on making nest tubes all say hay is best
TIGHTCHOKE
Try it and post the results.
scotslad
I would imagine straw will break down easier than grass and isn't really the bendy for nest making. It might do for re wrapping the outside off the tubes if they need down. Really only 1 way to find out, I'd do every 2nd tube or so or 2 close together and see if ducks prefer 1 or other
Walker570
I would think hay or just dry grass pulled from the pond sides would be more natural. You can but try. The old duck will soon let you know. She'll either line it with feathers or give it two feathers.
flippermaj
The straw was rubbish. Hay binds together nicely, straw was far too loose so didn’t use it.
