Coons have been coming in fast a ferious around the barns and fish pond over at Dads. With the heat we have been having many of the small creeks and ponds have dried up. In the past 9 days we have caught 16 including this one last night that decided to dig around in Trix's gardens.

I am sure that he has a sibbling running with him as he is this springs litter, so traps will be out for another night or two.

We have also been over run with chipmunks around the farm so have been using the tunnel trap to lessen their numbers in the past 2 weeks have taken 29 with the same set up as I used on the weasel.....just moved it outside and around the different buildings.

This has made a wonderful improvement with narry a chipmunk seen around the barns.

Paul,

The hides are very thin this time of year so are not collected...come October 25 the hides are in much better shape and are harvested by trap and hound. I am hoping for between 1800 and 2000 this year.

The meat is fine to eat, with the saddles being the best and then the hind legs as long as you give a 24 hour salt water bath to help tenderize it a bit. I does make wonderful chile and burgers.

1800-2000 christ forget the coon skin hat, more like a full on fur coat for Trix. So if we 'drop in' around October time we might get to sample some good ol' cooked coon? :good: and the chipmunk fur???

Nick the chipmuncks are too small to do anything with. However the terrier and the docksy do love to hunt them :lol:

The end of October is best Nick as that is when the leagel season opens and I can get some extra dogs out....before that I am working as an agent for farmers protecting crops. Most of our game seasons open the 25th of October including ducks.

Paul although where I am you are not going to see the Rockies......you could vacation for 1 week in a nice remote cabin on a fly in lake where the walleye pick up your jig on most casts, with large pike and maybe a few lake trout thrown in for around 600 pounds ontop of your flight over.

Pictures reposted....heres hoping
