webber
Well done Lancs, and Jasper keep it up. We should have more pheasants this season, as the homing variety sourse has been dispensed with. Looks like Jasper has got the right idea, not too sure about the cameraman. webber

TOM'S DAD
nice quick retreive. Just a little tip, try a few retreives with your back against a wall or something solid, this will eventually teach the dog to sit in front rather than circle you before you take the retreive from the dog. The long blast on the whistle is what I use to "get him on"....... He is 7 months now.............and he does get a treat on retrieve...........it was on every one from when he was a pup. Think that vid he is about 5 months. Now he gets a treat every now and again....say 1 in every 3 or so. I have moved onto multiple dummies and he gets a treat when he retrieves 3 dummies. I use a long blast to "get on". (and with hand signals left or right when he is "stayed" at distance...) 1 quick blast to stop. 2 pips to come back. 5 pips to get him to change direction. Working on this on the long lead at the moment. Jaz was started from day one when I picked him up...............it was the name game first..........daugher and me at end of garden calling him...then onto the whistle to come...2 pips.... Cockers are not hard........................think we just make it hard.
MadSpringer
5 pips to turn, I hope he scores high in his numeracy tests B) Make things easy for you and the dog. You can train a dog to whatever commands you like but the norm for a spaniel is:- 1 long blast to stop (hup/sit) 2 pips to turn quick multiple pips for recall Just use a verbal get on or get out with a hand signal to send him out don't bother with a whistle command! The Stop has to be a significantly different sound for the dog to respond well thats why a longer single blast is used. Using 5 pips to turn, the dog is not sure if he needs to stop on the first pip or return on the second. He is still young enough to change his whistle commands if you wish to It's very easy to teach a spaniel to turn without the use of a line. Let him hunt close to you and walk to your left, as he comes across the front of you turn sharply to your right giving 2 pips and keep walking he will soon turn to follow you and as he crosses infront of you to your right turn sharply left giving 2 pips and walk on! keep repeating this sort of action for 5-10 mins each session. Keep it fun and give him plenty of praise and you should find he will pick it up very easily. Cheers
