ernyha
Squirtle Red what is Squirtle, some type of fly spay? Do you ever read your posts before pressing the"add reply" button?
red_stag88
Squirtle happens to be what I occasionaly call tree rats. And yes I do read my post Ern, only occasionaly. Being truthful, I do read it, but I still cant see the wrong spellings. One of the problems of dyslexica and dyspraxia is readin' what you want to read, not what actually is there. tiercel
Back to the original question. Its actually quite easy to dry skins and capes. All you have to do is skin it, clean all the fat off the inside of the cape and rub some borax powder into it, put it to dry and job done a cape or pelt that wont lose its hair/feathers. You can get the borax powder from snowdonia taxidermy supplies if you do a goole they have a web site.

Cakie174
Thanks Any idea how you go about skinning the skull, i have not tried and am sure its straight forward enough.
red_stag88
I have salted hides by the way, makes 'em dead stiff though. I have skinned a munjac skull, and it came off in bits basically. I wasnt keeping the skin so I did it a bit messly. I found it quite tough.

tiercel
Red im no expert on cureing skins. My mates a taxidermist! I think if you want a supple rug you would need to use a tanning solution available from the same place.
red_stag88
I have a tannink kit for a small hide, but was just wondering, as I dont want to spend loads tanning a fallow hide. I have a book on making buckskin, but prefere them with fur on.
