VULTURE
Hi. Does anyone know if it's safe to use paint stripper on carbon fibre. I have a motorcycle mudguard that has been painted by a previous owner. thanks. Vulture.
johnphilip
Could you not just sand it back and respray , depending on colour of course .
Walker570
Yep, I would tend to sand it back and repaint. Trick is, try a small spot on the undeside.
panoma1
I've scraped the finish off a carbon fishing rod with a blade, down to bare carbon, replaced the rod guides then re finished it....turned out fine!
adzyvilla
If it has been lacquered or painted, you are better of using wet or dry sanding to get down to bare carbon. Make sure you seal it up properly afterwards though as UV light will break down unprotected carbon fibre very quickly. I work in manufacturing for a composites company so if you want any other advice, let me know.
VULTURE
OK thanks, have started wet sanding ,the paint is quite soft so not much effort required, just messy. The mudguard was originally a gloss finish so hopefully tcut will restore this. Vulture
