Browning
After watching the comings and goings of foxes over the last couple of weeks I've pretty much workd out their route home in the morning, and at what time I see them give/take 30 mins. As I don't yet have my Firearms license I'll have to wait for them with the shotgun. Can anyone recommend a good 12G cartridge/shot size for foxes ? The shotgun I use will be either a Beretta AL391 Urika Semi - 12gauge 3" or a Laurona O/U - 12 gauge 3" magnum. Cheers, Browning

bobthenailer22
3 inch magnum express bb's with full choke will almost chop a fox in two at about 35 yards. this is what i put thru my berreta 391 results: dead fox every time very humane way to see them off with shotgun. get your range estermation correct or even a heavy bb or sg load at two far a range will only result in a pepperd ginger dog that will run off. Quercus
M ROBSON, how well do the SG's pattern through your gun? I tried a few a while back and at 40 yards there were some serious fox sized holes in the pattern. Q
M ROBSON
I use a fixed choke Beretta 303, it holds a tight enough pattern up to about 45 yards. I've used my 10g with 2 1/4 oz of bb's at foxes at the same range and it hasn't killed them! On two seperate occations charlie has limped off not looking very well. I just feel a bit more confident that the SG's can kill what I shoot at.
Quercus
If they work for you then that's good, personally I'll stick with the BB's or even 1's Q
potshot
BASC have recently done research on effective range using such loads as mentioned already. FORGET choke because the pattern will be adversly affected with large shot sizes. The most important result was that the effective killing power dropped off very rapidly after 20 yards - so any shot at 45 yards is just ridiculous Potshot
