My thinking is there is always a compromise.

.17hmr isn't a dedicated foxing rifle, but a .222 is probably a bit strong for rabbit. Depends on if you want rid or for the pot. There's also the cost, bit pricey shooting scut tails with a cf.

.22 hornet probably a good all rounder.. (which is what I voted for)

I wouldn't want to be shooting a lot of foxes with the .17hmr, it's just not a dedicated foxing round.

Pin i agree with you on that one mate hmr is not really a great foxing round which is why i didnt vote for it if noise was not an issue .223 would fairly sort out the magpies and greys and ammo is cheaper than hornet even though its a lot more powerful,in the real world though once you include foxes into the equation you need two guns, centrefire .222 or higher for fox,and hmr for everything else.I would imagine 22-250 ammo is same as .17rem and 220swift over here john in and around €38

Your in cavan im not to far away from you good hilly country round your way great area for foxes id say ??? My .223 is very accurate my best groups with my T3 would be with sako 50gr soft points 1" groups at 150yrds conor in galways .223 is also seriously accurate he had pics a while back of some very tight groups at 200yrds with american eagle ammo which you can pic up for around €12
