pin
What about .17rem and FAC air? Depends on the vermin, really.
john faul
fac prob not suited were talkin foxes as well.
pin
FAC Air doesn't have to be restricted to 20-30ft/lb but I take your point, you did say "all round"
Ferret Master
It depends entirely on what you are shooting, why you are shooting it, where you are shooting it, the acceptable noise levels and the range at which you are shooting it. Too many variables to select one callibre without more information from yourself. FM

pin
My thinking is there is always a compromise. .17hmr isn't a dedicated foxing rifle, but a .222 is probably a bit strong for rabbit. Depends on if you want rid or for the pot. There's also the cost, bit pricey shooting scut tails with a cf. .22 hornet probably a good all rounder.. (which is what I voted for)
john faul
the .223 is cheap enuf but the 17hmr is prob bst choice
john faul
my friends have a 22 hornet and the bullets way too dear probably 17hmr PS dont want bunnies for the pot...
pin
I wouldn't want to be shooting a lot of foxes with the .17hmr, it's just not a dedicated foxing round.
john faul
yea i know what about the 22-250 are the bullets dear could anyone give me prices on it thanks....
JohnGalway
I didn't vote because of the criteria you mentioned, range, cost, species. You'll need two different calibres IMO. One good centrefire and one rimfire.
Guest p.beretta
best i would say is .22 rimfire
stevethevanman
17hmr or if you really dont care about meat 223/22-250/243...my FEO shoots foxes with his HMR he reacons at not silly ranges i.e. up to 100yds, they collapse like a sack of spuds with good shots broadside/neck/head Steve
henry d
Wot ! no .220 swift...............
codling99
i voted .222 ,cos it a slight bit quieter than .223,and agree with johngalaway, you need more than one gun for mentioned quarry..22 for close or lamp work, and centrfire for long distance work. tikkamark
I wouldn't want to be shooting a lot of foxes with the .17hmr, it's just not a dedicated foxing round. Pin i agree with you on that one mate hmr is not really a great foxing round which is why i didnt vote for it if noise was not an issue .223 would fairly sort out the magpies and greys and ammo is cheaper than hornet even though its a lot more powerful,in the real world though once you include foxes into the equation you need two guns, centrefire .222 or higher for fox,and hmr for everything else.I would imagine 22-250 ammo is same as .17rem and 220swift over here john in and around €
