Ricko
Hi, I've got a lovely, solid Charles Taylor machine vice that is missing the acme threaded screw to tighten it. Any thoughts about where to get a replacement? I suspect I'd have to take it along to check the thread? Your thoughts are more than welcome. Mice!
I've got metric thread gauges, not sure about acme? How big/ heavy is the vice?
amateur
mooreinternational.co.uk shows up as a supplier of a range of acme threads if you google "acme threads". Failing an off the shelf solution, you may need to find someone with a lathe!
washerboy
My favourite thread to cut Often cut 4 tpi and odd 3 tpi We use it in the graphite industry on graphite lancers that are used to stare molten metals Hbs1 on a Colchester lathe in imperial if that helps. figgy
You oy need the nut it's going into to check the size and pitch. If you can't buy off the shelf any machine shop with a lathe should be able to make you one.
washerboy
Check the nut, find the od you want and let me know, not promising because i don't machine steel but you never know.

It's a big old thing, like this https://images.app.goo.gl/Q2KZDzzYb3ziuqTY7 Given the age of it I think it's unlikely to be a metric acme thread. I've just knocked the cap off a Record G clamp to try it, which doesn't fit. I think I'm going to have to make a mould of the inside of the threaded clamp on the vice to try and get some dimensions. I must have had it 20 years and was given it with the piece missing.
Mice!
Might be one like it in work i can look at, thing is I'm contracting and just started, might be able to get one made but couldn't carry the vice in, too big and heavy.
