Old Boggy
Having a clear out and came across some Arcoroc (France) glasses which were collected with Shell petrol tokens in the 70`s, I think. I seem to recall that if dropped, they smashed into a thousand (slight exaggeration !) pieces. Anyone else remember them or even still got some. Never did like throwing stuff away !! Several school mates had tiger tails, given away during the Esso "Put a tiger in your tank" promotion (1960s), but I didn't get one because my dad always bought his fuel from the local BP garage. Oh, the bitter disappointment.
Cranfield
About the time Esso had the tiger promotion there was a General Election and I recall the local farmer having a sticker in his Landrover back window, "Put a Tory in your tank and your engine won't Labour", pretty far right in those days.😉 My wife recently discarded an old ironing board that had had constant use for 51 years, we bought it on a PG Tips promotion, vouchers plus 49/11 (fortynine shillings and eleven pence) . At the end of the month he would settle his account by cheque in person and fill the back of the estate car with boxes and boxes of the damned things.
