tulkyuk
I been out quite a lot this week on charlie hunts, with quite a good bit of success- We have had 7 this week alone, the first 4 on monday night with a mate driving me lamping for the first hour and another mate ( Keeper) shooting his 22-250, in the first hour he shot 2 ( 1 fully grown vixen and a cub) and the second hour i was shooting and he lamped, the first 1 i shot was a cub and was doing one the strangest things i have ever seen, we put the lamp across the feild and seen a pair of eyes, so we drove the landy into field to take the shot , we drove down to put ourselfs inbetween it and the wood then flicked the lamp on and out from behing a small hill a bager was running at full speed with the bloody cub chasing him ( never seen anything likr it before) anyway my mate shouts at it and it stops, so look through the scope and pull the trigger - 1 down. We then drove around a few more fields and didnt see a lot untill we went onto a stubble field and another pair of eyes lit up, same thing look down the scope and pull the trigger ( nice heart shot). no.2 for the night for me - 4 in total. The next one was shot on wednesday night by my mate Graeme, we had been out all night looking for a fox to shoot and had seen nothing all night , so decided to go home about 12.30 or so, as we left the estate i decided to flick the lamp through the gate way of the last field of the estate and low and behold there was 2 cubs running after a rabbit no more than 10 yrds from the gate, so by the time Graeme manages to get his rifle out of the bag, put the bolt in, put bullets in the clip and get to a good firing postion on the gate post, the)y had split up and ran across the field , but 1 was only 80yrds or so away and graeme put the cross hairs of his scope on the little fellers nose and pulled the trigger of his 17hmr - another one down for the week ( 5 so far). Thursday Night next and i went out on my own (no one esle wanted to play ) i decided to go out early and try to catch out a fox that i've been after for ages, this fox has been about on the estate since i started shooting there this year, we have tried to get it with the lamp on several occasions with no success ( think someone had taken a shot at her before i started going there and made her vey shy) and i have not been able to see her in daylight, as the place she was in is bordered by barley fields and she just used to go in there and hide, well they cut the barley this week and i thought it would be a pewrfect chance to have a wait out for it and just before dark she came trotting across the field and completely unaware i was sat in my truck right along the hedgerow. she was about 150 yrds out and trying to sneek up on a hare but just before she could get to her quarry, i placed the cross hiers on her ribcage and gave a quick shout - she stopped in her tracks and i pulled the trigger, 75grn ballistic tip to the side and out go the lights for number 6 this week. Then out again last night with Graeme again, we had gone out for a few rabbits but i decided to put the 243 in the truck ( just in case ), well we went round the estate in the truck and has shot about 25 rabbits or so and was using graeme 17 hmr ( so bieng really quiet) and he had shot about 4 one after the other and i lamped around the field to look for some more and i lit up a bright pair of eyes on the next stubble field over, i thought i know what that is and told graeme to put his gun away and get on the lamp, so i could get the big gun out, i got it out of the case on the back seat and slipped the mag in and graeme agve a little squeek and flicked the lamp on - charlie was running to us like a steam train - i rested the gun on the bipod over the bonnet of my truck and watched him come in. i let him get to about 80 yrds or so and tell my mate to shout at him to stop, quick shout and foxy stops ~ cross hairs on the nose and .................Bang! number seven of the week down - we walked over to pick it up and i had shot right under the nose and the foxes head was in a right state, eyes popped out, all its teeth broke, big hole and a mashed scull. Not a bad week all in all, but i may have to stay in tonight or the wife may just shoot me!!!!! Pics below are of the fox shot on thursday and the 1 i shot last night. Cheers Paul *good*
