Just some of my Beech saplings that have been repotted. Only 3 out of the ones replanted look like they will die off. I've also sent quite a few to a PW member.

I'm pleased too, that my Walnut's that I planted have all germinated and have started to push up through the soil. They will be repotted on the weekend.

Did  not know they existed...new one on me.  They normally take many years to grow to any size and produce nuts.   can always send a few fresh ones to anyone who wants to try and get some to grow. Best when they are fresh, so end September into October. Just pm me an address around that time.

So basically, is it just a case of popping a whole walnut  (in the shell) into some soil / compost?  I always like a challenge at growing certain plants, so might have a go.  I've got a large Kiwi fruit plant up my allotment....although that was bought as a small plant from Aldi a few years ago.  I also once planted some palm type nuts, brought back from Turkey (I think!) and one of them grew into a decent size mini tree.

It is but not everyone will germinate I've had 8 out of 20 grow.

That's what I did. Popped a few in the soil, and kept them watered. I will be replanting them into their own pots this weekend.

I believe a walnut will grow just lay on the surface but obviously slightly burying them will also work. I have found nuts in the grass where the nut is producing a thick white tap root from the bse of the nut.  They are a bit like oak trees they take along time to mature and grow.
