mellors
Hi all Looking at the hushpower screw on moderator. It's for my new franchi affinity 12gauge. They say it's ok for all steel loads so I thought it would very useful to have as we're using mainly steel now. Mostly eley vip 28gram 5s steel game on pigeon to good effect. Has anyone got one on a franchi are they any good and most importantly do they work.
Guest cookoff013
i think youd be hard pressed to have any decent setup with steel shot. might be safe, but still could be useless. when i made subs in lead. only #4-#2 became useful. good luck

As I said already using mainly 28 gram steel 5s. Just thought it would be useful being less noisy if in fact they are.
Guest cookoff013
oh, i cant help with that. but good luck. the hushpowers help equilibrate the escaping gasses from the barrel as a way to reduce the gas speed exceeding the sound barrier, let alone the shot breaking the sound barrier. good luck. oowee
If you want a useful tool that has a significant reduction in volume get a 20g hush power. With subs I am using mine without ear protectors outside the farmers house at 0445 in the morning without waking him up. Particularly helpful in and around buildings or shooting amongst animals. Already have an investarm 20g o/u hushpower. Not ideal for steel although they say fibre wad development is on going for them. They say they have sold a lot of these 12g moderators. Just wanted a few reviews to see if it's worth spending £210 or if there is a better alternative as I'm using mainly steel now for pigeon. captainhastings
I bought the hushpower mod for my escort semi and with standard carts it was not very good £185. I have not tried with subs yet as I only just got some. Also they said don't put steel through it. I have a 20g single fully shrouded and that is brill with subs but I doubt it would take steel

A few of my permissions the hushpower is invaluable and has produced more opportunities. So the only option was a 12g auto with moderator which they say is fully compatable with steel loads. But there are no independent reviews.

I would guee that the sub sonic cart is likely to have the biggest impact and can't see the mod on its own being any appreciable difference. It's a shame but it's looking like a no for steel. I asked for there data on noise reduction on these with steel but seems there is none. So will have to carry on with 20 gauge hushpower and lead at sensitive sites for now.

It would still be far quieter than the standard barrel.
motty
I think home loading is the way forward if you want to take the noise levels right down. Steel shouldn't be a problem through the moderators. A bloke on Facebook puts over 3000 steel shells a year through his moderated 20 with no issues.
