We all know that the stats used across the various countries are variable at least. This article states that if we used Spain’s method for counting deaths then we would have had only 20 deaths yesterday.

It does irritate me that even some of the ones presenting the slides don't know what they are reporting, and as for journalists well most of them are absolutely clueless.

This chap on Twitter does a good data-plot: https://mobile.twitter.com/RP131/status/1271431571632009216/photo/1 . It breaks down the date of death vs the date that the death is recorded. He updates it daily.

Essentially the headline the Govt reports is the number of deaths recorded on the day. But as it can takes weeks (and months) for this to happen on occasion, which means that the daily figure isn't people who've died on that day. Of course if you like at the link, the data for recent days is artificially low but after a week the lions share will be reported for each day, and you can get a very good indication of situation. So looking at this is a more accurate portrayal of the data, it also takes out the whole 'weekend lag' reporting effect, by just showing the data.

Spain seems to be a bit naughty. But every Govt is at it, including ours.

I've been aware of this for a while now and don't take any notice of any exact figures published or spoken about in the daily briefings/news etc. I have been keeping an eye on the 'trend' figures though, which give a general view to as and when things are improving, or not.

To be honest the stats globally are a joke. If you look at the death rate against he number of positive cases our health service doesn't look good. 14% of people tested positive have died. Same as Italy. Better than France at 19% but well behind Spain at 9% and miles away from those world leaders in healthcare - USA 6%, Germany 5%, Iran 5%, India 3%, Turkey 3% and Russia 1%!

Our NHS should be ashamed of itself letting all those people die! OR we just admit that the stats are ****

Country Total Cases Total Deaths  Death rate
World  7,670,348   425,919  6%
USA  2,100,999   116,389  6%
Brazil  809,398   41,162  5%
Russia  511,423   6,715  1%
India  309,389   8,890  3%
UK  292,950   41,181  14%
Spain   290,289   27,136  9%
Italy  236,305   34,223  14%
Peru  214,788   6,109  3%
Germany  186,933   8,853  5%
Iran   182,525   8,659  5%
Turkey  175,218   4,778  3%
Chile  160,846   2,870  2%
France   155,561   29,346  19%

Ours is purely down to lack of testing, millions have had it but not been tested

Lack of testing! We have tested more than any other country (6,434,713) only behind USA (23,794,382) and Russia (14,218,674).

Except when we had the most cases going on they only tested in hospital and told everyone else to isolate at home. We are bulk testing now but there is no way at all that we are anywhere near the correct number of cases.  The early suggestions were we were out by a multiple of 10 but even that is probably too low
